The Asia-Pacific region is home to 47 RCEs, which are jointly developing a common platform that identifies more strategic approaches for addressing regional sustainable challenges. The annual regional meeting has been held since 2008 with the view of strengthening partnerships and collaboration among RCEs in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2014, the 7th Asia-Pacific RCE Meeting will be organized in Penang, Malaysia in conjunction with the International Symposium on “A Decade of Regional Centres of Expertise on ESD:  Reflections and Advances in Asia-Pacific” on 26-28 August.

The major objectives of the meeting are to share experiences and innovative ideas, discuss thematic issues that are critical in addressing sustainability challenges in the region, and develop the future direction of the Asia-Pacific RCEs post 2014 in the context of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD.  The meeting will also discuss important issues of relevance to the 9th Global RCE Conference in Okayama, Japan this November.

The International Symposium will be open to the public and consist of a keynote address, panel discussion and case presentations which highlight achievements, challenges, and potentials of the RCEs with reference to the GAP’s five priority areas, that is, policy support, whole-institution approach, capacity building of educators and trainers, youth, and local community.
